XCOM's cousin: The Bureau

Last week, Steam gave a discount to a science fiction shooter The Bureau: X-COM Declassified. The game is a spin-off from the X-COM series. Unlike X-COM, The Bureau is a action shooter where you lead a special team against alien forces who are ravaging the earth.

When I first saw the trailer, I was excited and hope to play for myself. Now, I am disappointed. The game delivered was different to what shown in the first trailer. The game was in development for some years and there was a controversy about the game's concept and following X-COM traditional gameplay. The end result was good... and no more.

Alien occupation

After reading some review, the common points that all of them agree that the game is similar to Mass Effect. Conversation wheel is used to decide conversation and the result leads to branching results. The gameplay is also similar. There is the cover mechanic, the laser guns, and the two members per team. All this makes it more similar to Mass Effect.

The story line starts lame and cliche. The main character gets himself into the war against aliens, fights for justice and leads the fight back to the enemy. It does get crazy later in the game. From then I started to get into the game, just wanting to see what happens next.

The game may not be among the best, although it was intended to be, it is a good experience for all gamers. X-COM fans will feel sad but it is a good attempt to bring a video game series known for strategy to action shooter.

Good graphics
